Feast on Cuba: 10 days in Havana, Varadero Beach, Cienfuegos

Travel to Cuba is still full of bureaucracy and paperwork, so we need to allow for plenty of time to receive travelers' visas and process the licenses.

Please Note: We are still in the early stages of planning, and while this itinerary is representative of the trip and fairly accurate, specific details may change.

CubaTripPhotoSidebarDAY 1: Saturday – Welcome to Old Havana –

  • Boarding flights (port time pending on chosen flight)
  • After clearing customs and immigration in Cuba, we will be welcomed with a VIP reception and briefing before we continue to the Hotel Inglaterra for check-in.
  • Afternoon of city site-seeing in vintage cars. Panoramic views of the city at sunset.

DAY 2: Sunday – Hemingway in Havana –

  • Following breakfast at the hotel we will visit "Finca Vigia" "La hacienda" which was Ernest Hemingway’s sprawling estate on the outskirts of Havana and is now a museum where we will learn about his life and love for the island.
  • Lunch at Aljibe Paladar, a family-owned restaurant made famous by Anthony Bourdain during his visit to Cuba.
  • Will take a walking tour of “El callejon de Hammel” (Hammel Alley) in the Center of Havana. With hundreds of exhibitions, live music and dancers. A closer look at the Cuban Culture and life style.
  • Walking tour of Old Havana.
  • Drop by “La Bodeguita del Medio,” one of Hemingway favorites spots for Mojitos.
  • Dinner at “El floridita” Ernest Hemingway’s favorite spot for Daiquiris.
  • Historic tour of the Morro-Cabaña forts and stay to see the reenactment of the 9:00 pm cannon.

DAY 3: Monday – Farm to Table, Cuban Style –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel
  • Morning visit to the Vivero Organoponico in Vedado (local farmers market) to learn how organic farming efforts provide food to urban areas and how the city is participating in farm-to-table dining.
  • Lunch at a local Paladar.
  • You will have the choice to take dance lessons (Mergengue, Cha Cha Cha, Salsa).
  • Dinner on your own. (Our guide will make recommendations.)
  • Night to dance and enjoy the show at "Tropicana," one of Cuba’s most famous Cabarets.

DAY 4: Tuesday – Artes y Letras –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel.
  • Tour of Miramar, the most prominent residential area in Havana.
  • Lunch at local Paladar.
  • Visit to Cuban Libro Café. Bring and donate reading material in English; converse with locals and help them practice their English.
  • Visit to the Flea Market, the perfect place to pick up souvenirs. Will have the opportunity to meet and converse with artists who Roberto knows.
  • Dinner at local Paladar.
  • Attend a ballet show or a concert at Casa de la Musica.

DAY 5: Wednesday – Viñales Valley – Cuba’s “Yosemite”

  • Breakfast at the Hotel before taking bus to the Province of Pinar del Rio.
  • Tour of Viñales.
  • Lunch in Viñales.
  • Bus back to the Hotel in Havana.
  • Dinner at local Paladar, where we will observe and converse with a tobacco maker rolling the famous Cuban cigar.

DAY 6: Thursday – Surf and Sand in Varadero –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel in Havana.
  • Travel to Varadero Beach.
  • Stop at “El Bacunayagua Bridge,” Cuba’s highest bridge, and enjoy a piña colada at “El Mirador”.
  • Lunch at Casa Dupont restaurant.
  • Stay at luxurious Hotel ARENAS DORADAS or MEMORIES VARADERO. Check in and relax at the beach.
  • Dinner at the Hotel
  • Night at the beach interacting with private musicians and enjoying the stars around a fire pit.

DAY 7: Friday – Beach Safari in Varadero –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel.
  • Jeep Safari Tour to Saturno’s Cave.
  • Prepare your own lunch while taking a seafood cooking class and being instructed about the local fishing industry.
  • Enjoy the afternoon relaxing at the beach.
  • Dinner at the hotel.
  • Shake it Cuban style at the elite Cuevas del Pirata club.

DAY 8: Saturday – La perla del Sur, Cienfuegos –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel in Varadero.
  • Bus to Cienfuegos.
  • Stop along the way to visit the well known Bay of Pigs with a lesson on the Cuban Revolution and the missile crisis.
  • Light lunch at Bar Brig.
  • Tour of El castillo de Jagua, located at the picturesque entrance to Cienfuegos bay.
  • Check in to Hotel Jagua in Cienfuegos.
  • Short walking tour of Cienfuegos.
  • Family Dinner made by our host Roberto Copa Matos at his parents’ home and served on their rooftop terrace. With special guest Richar, a Cuban artist whose work has been featured at Old Havana Sandwich Shop.
  • Bus back to the Hotel.

DAY 9: Sunday – Valley of the Sugar Mills, Trinidad –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel.
  • Bus to historic Trinidad City.
  • Engage with local seamstresses and embroiderers in Trinidad’s famed linen market.
  • Lunch at local Paladar.
  • Historic tour of “El valle de los ingenios” (Valley of the Sugar Mills) in Trinidad.
  • Back to the Hotel Jagua in Cienfuegos.
  • Dinner at the Hotel.
  • Last night to dance and enjoy one of the best mojitos in the world.

DAY 10: - Monday – “All good things…” –

  • Breakfast at the Hotel and Check out.
  • Bus to the province of Santa Clara to catch return flight home and a big “Hasta Pronto Cuba”

Cost: $3,470 + Airfare (approximately $470 Tampa:Havana; Santa Clara:Miami)

Trip Cost Includes:

  • Cuban tourist visa
